HISTORY OF THE CHAPTER
The Clarks River Chapter was organized on April 21, 2012. According to The Kentucky Encyclopedia: "Clarks River, a sixty-two-mile-long tributary of the Tennessee River, flows through the Jackson Purchase area in far western Kentucky. The East Fork of Clarks River, with its drainage area in Calloway County, flows north through Marshall County. The West Fork of Clarks River flows north through the western portion of Calloway County and the northeastern corner of Graves County. The East and West forks of the Clarks River merge in McCracken County and flow into the Tennessee River, approximately three miles east of that river's convergence with the Ohio."
The river is named for General George Rogers Clark, who camped with his army near its mouth while en-route to Kaskaskia during the American Revolution.
